Magnus Bordewick – Shimmy
Before worrying about whether something should be a story or a hard post, there was the bro-cam. The main difference with the ‘gram was that using these devices generally tended to be more about the physical act of capturing something, often without necessarily even having any real desired outcome for the endeavour beyond just doing it. So more like an excuse to try maybe just 10% harder than you would if that thing wasn’t pointed at you, whilst also remaining unbothered about the fact that you asking ‘fuck whatever happened to that shit we filmed at the plaza that summer?’ at the pub once is as close as that footage will get to seeing the light of day.
Of course when such cameras were on the sessions around someone like Brian Wenning – at the peak of his superpowers and cheekiness – you’d get gold. We’ll forever be grateful to Ian Reid for having the foresight of capturing and editing all that BW ABC ledge magic for his seminal ‘Sex, Hood, Skate, and Videotape‘ (in the same way as Josh Kalis is a fucking hero for putting out ‘Bro Cam‘ despite it never getting finished), which is why we couldn’t be more stoked that Sensi decided to change the course of fate for these particular dust-gathering DV tapes from a few years ago. Yes most of it looks like it was filmed through a potato and yes some of the fun took place in designated sk8 facilities (😱) but all Magnus Bordewick footage must be protected and preserved for posterity at all costs (hence why we also made a big deal out of this).
