Lau Willems – L.A.U.
Lau Willems’ new L.A.U. (Love And Unity) part has been a labour of love for the past two years (although she admits a couple clips are a bit older). Here’s a little from Lau:
“I basically gave up skateboarding for a while because I was scared of what people would think about me or if they’d laugh at me — you know, all that stuff. I actually stopped skating for about a year.
Then I finally told two of my friends what was going on and why they hadn’t seen me in so long. One of them is Ruben, who filmed this part. Their response was basically: ‘Let’s do a skate trip to the Canary Islands. Nobody knows you there, you can just be yourself. We’ll skate and have fun.’
And honestly, that ended up being one of the most amazing trips I’ve ever had. I came back from that trip and I was done hiding. I just went back to the skatepark again. After that, my friend and I had this idea: what if we just keep filming, and maybe turn it all into a part that shows who you are and kind of tells the timeline of everything that happened? I guess this part is what came out of that, and I’m really happy with how it turned out ☺️”
Filmed and edited by Ruben Vermeulen, Lau hits the streets of Ghent, where she lives, as well as the rest of Belgium, along with some mandatory Barcelona clips, a dash of Bordeaux mixed with the Canary Islands and sprinkle of SF. Paired with some tech ledge manoeuvres, controlled mannys and a gnarly, crusty taildrop, Lau has sourced all the right ingredients for an appetising video part. Bon appetit!
