Isaac Relis – Cold Approach
Old heads can whine all they want about how this never-ending onslaught of videos has changed skateboarding for the worse, but I was also there in 2003, and 18-year-olds were not putting out parts like this, neither level-wise (although that’s beside the point here) nor sk8 IQ-wise. There’s a reason Rick and Mike pulled the trigger on Isaac (pick up a copy of the new issue for his first Girl ad!): the gift is undeniable, sure, but it’s also because his vision is clear and light-years ahead of what you’d expect from someone of that age. Like, this is what you get when Mariano-esque talent flourishes in a world where Untitled reigns supreme, and all the videos available at our fingertips are soaked up and properly digested to make educated choices on what’s whack and what’s not. So watch it once, take a minute to remind yourselves of some of the suss clips that made it into your first parts as a teen (I know I had some serious stinkers…), then watch it again and get gassed about the future.
Filmed by Aaron Relis and Angel Hernandez.
Additional filming by Kona Russi and Robin Wilson.
Edited by Andres Bill.
